Biography

Jane Cockle-Hearne has eight years experience in health care research at the University of Surrey, the last five in psychosocial oncology.  Prior to Surrey, Jane has over twenty years consumer and health care research experience in the market research and advertising sector.

Research Interests

Jane Cockle-Hearne has special interest in the psychosocial aspects of cancer support, rehabilitation and survivorship, in particular self-management and cognitive behavioural interventions.   She is currently managing a randomised controlled trial to evaluate an intervention for self-management of urinary symptoms after treatment for prostate cancer, funded by Dimbleby Cancer Care, the results of which are due in 2012.   Jane is also responsible for a European Oncology Nursing Society project to develop a pan-European education package for health care practitioners who care for men with prostate cancer: this project encompasses on-line surveys amongst nurses, doctors and patients across seven countries.  Jane was a member of the team responsible for a pilot study examining the benefits of a nurse-led telephone follow-up intervention for women with ovarian cancer.  She has worked extensively with quantitative and qualitative methodologies and mixed methods design.
