Midwifery Studies (Shortened Programme)
This programme is targeted at qualified, practising, adult nurses who wish to become midwives. The programme currently runs for 78 weeks (18 months) alongside the 3 year direct entry programme and commences in September 2013. It contains approximately 50% theory and 50% practice.
This is a full time, salaried programme with all students being contracted to one of the following trusts:-
- Ashford and St Peters NHS Trust
- Frimley Park NHS Foundation Trust
- Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Trust
- Surrey and Sussex NHS Trust
- Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Trust
Entry Qualifications and Recruitment
Applicants must be currently registered on Part 1 or Part 12 of the NMC professional register and be able to demonstrate that:-
- They have 120 credits at Level 1 and 60 credits at Level 2 acquired from previous study, in relevant disciplines, in keeping with the outcomes of the programme. If these credits were acquired more than 5 years ago applicants must demonstrate relevant, recent, credited study. Exceptionally APEL and APEEL may be used but this may delay recruitment.
- They have a current NMC PIN number or will have one before the course commences
- They are an EU resident or have indefinite leave to remain in the UK
- They have worked as a nurse, since qualification, in an English speaking environment, preferably for at least 6 months in the last 3 years
Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate good marks in recent study as this is a demanding programme.
Application is on line through UCAS www.ucas.ac.uk. The course code is B720. The next intake for this programme will be September 2013. Forms can be completed online, prior to submitting them when UCAS opens in mid September. We would advise you apply as soon as possible after mid-September as the course is extremely popular. Please ensure that the reference on the UCAS form is either an academic reference or a character reference from your current employer.
Interviews
Shortlisting for interview is based on the quality of the application received, in particular the personal statement and evidence of fulfilment of the entry qualifications. The majority of interviews will be in December 2012. If invited to interview you will be informed about the Maths and English tests which must be completed during your interview day.
