Erasmus staff exchange:
The Erasmus exchange programme provides funding for academic and administrative staff to to carry out a period of teaching or training at one of the University’s Erasmus partner universities. Funding includes an allowance for the door-to-door travel cost (up to €500) and accommodation and subsistence (amount depends on the destination and ranges from €98 to €195 per 24-hour period). The outgoing member of staff should also be prepared to host a visitor from the receiving institution as a reciprocal arrangement. However, this does not necessarily have to happen in the same academic year.
Erasmus teaching mobilty:
There is an obligation to deliver at least 5 hours of teaching (i.e. at least one day), which has to be part of the local syllabus, i.e. not guest lectures but can be a mixture of undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral level teaching. A minimum duration of 5 working days is strongly recommended to provide a meaningful contribution to the teaching programme and international academic life at the host institution. You can engage in other activities at the host institution such as giving presentations about Surrey, meeting exchange students, discussing joint research etc. The maximum duration is 6 weeks. The main purpose of the visit should be for teaching and not research.
Erasmus training mobility:
The duration of the training period must be from 5 working days to 6 weeks. The main purpose of a training visit is to acquire knowledge from experiences and good practices of a partner university. This can include language training, attending seminars or workshops, courses and conferences. It is also possible to go to an enterprise, where the main purpose would be to learn by transfer of knowledge and to acquire practical skills. So visiting one of the companies where we regularly have placement students and spending 5 days there to see what they actually do is an excellent training activity.
If you have links with European companies you can also invite them to teach at Surrey and undertake training with your students.
