ELSP – Frequently Asked Questions for Semester 2

1) What do I need before registering?

To apply for the English Language Support Programme, you will need your username and password.

2) Which classes should I apply for?

There are classes for students from all departments and some special classes for specific departments. You are strongly advised to sign up for the most appropriate class. Classes marked 'cont' will be a continuation of the course started in semester 1.

3) How many classes may I register for?

You may sign up for a maximum of 3 classes.

4) When should I register?

You are advised to register early to secure a place in a class but please do not apply until you have your timetable.

5) When do classes begin?

Classes start week beginning 8th February and will run for 7 weeks until the Easter break, and will re-start from 26th April for a further 2 weeks (9 weeks in total).

6) When and how will I know if I have been accepted into a class?

You will receive an email to say whether your application has been successful. This will take place after week commencing 25th January so your application may appear as 'pending' until 5th February. To find out if you have been allocated a place, please check your University email regularly or visit the registration page to check your course bookings.

7) What happens if I don't hear anything?

If you do not receive an e-mail or your application appears as 'pending' after 5th February, your application has not been processed yet. This may be because of the large volume of students who have applied for the same class or because you have not applied for the most appropriate class. If this is the case, we will email you and advise you which classes you should apply for.

8) What will happen if I don't attend classes?

We will cancel bookings of students who fail to attend the first two lessons without informing us in advance. We do this in order to accommodate as many students as possible in our classes.

9) How can I cancel classes I have been accepted in?

If you want to cancel classes you have been accepted in, please go to the registration page and cancel your booking. This will enable us to allocate your place to another student.
