Abstract
In this talk Dr Dhami will highlight how the crime control and due process models of the criminal justice system are interpreted into psychological models of human decision-making. She will present empirical evidence from experimental studies with court judges and courtroom observations of hearings that all demonstrate how judicial behavior departs from prescribed legal policy and practice. These departures will be explained in terms of the limitations of the human mind and the constraints of the judicial task, arriving at the conclusion that normative legal models lack psychological plausibility.
