Studying law gives you the winning edge

School of Law student Ali Salah Alahwig has come second in a national competition thanks to the skills gained from his law studies. The UK National Quran Competition tests participants ability to memorise the holy Quran and the quality of their recitation. Together with another competitor, Ali scored 100% and was placed second out of 1200 participants from all over the UK, netting him a cash prize and acclaim from the judges. This is the latest success for Ali who has won many national Quran competitions in his native country, Libya, and came second in a field of entrants from 49 countries in the 2001 International Quran competition in Mecca.

Law PhD student Ali puts his success down to the way his studies have helped him to develop his presentation skills and his self-discipline. As Ali told his PhD supervisor Dr Regina Rauxloh,  “Studying law has certainly helped me to build my motivation, confidence and public speaking skills.”
