Biography
Amanda Lloyd joined the School of Law in August 2006. Amanda has had a varied career working in France, Germany, Japan, Ethiopia, Kenya and Nigeria in a variety of roles, including teaching, consulting, and research. Before she came to the University of Surrey, she worked as a researcher in the international department of the Children's Legal Centre, Essex. Prior to this position, Amanda was an Associate Lecturer from 2001-2003 and then a full time Lecturer in Law from 2003-2005 at the University of the West of England, Bristol from 2003-2005. Amanda has also taught on the African Human Rights Module (Masters Programme) at the University of Essex (2002), as well as on the Advanced Masters in Children’s Rights, at the Institut Universitaire Kurt Bösch in Sion, Switzerland (2009, 2011).
Research Interests
Amanda’s principal research centres on the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child, evaluating the concepts, monitoring mechanisms and implementation of children’s rights in an African context.
Amanda works generally within the area of international human rights law, with a particular interest in the area of children's rights.

Amanda is the Programme Leader for the single honours programme. Amanda is also the Examinations Officer in the School of Law. She attends the Student Staff Liaison Committees, the Board of Studies and the Board of Examiners.

Consultancies
Amanda has undertaken consultancy work for the African Child Policy Forum, Addis Ababa (2004), as well as providing support to the African Union’s Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child. Amanda has also actively participated and facilitated sessions at the First CSO Forum to the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child, Addis Ababa (2009). Amanda has provided expert assistance on understanding the African Children’s Charter and its legal implications to Government representatives, members of civil society, lawyers and the judiciary from Kenya, Ethiopia and Somaliland at the Save the Children (Finland) Conference on Law and Policy Development on Violence against Children (2009).
