Biography
Theodore Konstadinides is a Lecturer in Law at the School of Law. His research and teaching focuses on European constitutional law. He has previously taught at University College London and has been a visiting lecturer at the Universities of Stockholm, Uppsala, Vrije Amsterdam and a Fellow at the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies in London. He has written on a number of issues, including EU competence delimitation, judicial protection in EU law and aspects of EU external relations.
Theodore is currently working on his second monograph on the rule of law in the European Union. The purpose is to identify the procedural and substantive dimension of the rule of law in EU internal and external policies in order to provide a better understanding of the evolution, scope and application of EU law in practice. The monograph will be published by Hart in 2016.
Research Interests
Theodore’s main area of interest coheres around European constitutional law. His research explores, in particular, the delineation of competence between the EU and the Member States and the impact of European integration on national constitutional systems.
His research interests broadly include:
- EU constitutional law: for instance, constitutional pluralism, the legal principles that underpin EU law and the European context in which public law develops.
- EU security policy: especially, the shift of sovereign-sensitive policy areas from the periphery towards the centre of the EU constitutional framework (e.g. the fight against terrorism and serious crime, and defence cooperation - CSDP).
- EU external relations: particularly, the relationship between EU and public international law and the external dimension of the Area of Freedom, Security and Justice.
- Protection of fundamental rights in EU law: in particular, effective judicial protection, and the right to mobility through EU citizenship.
PhD Supervision
Theodore welcomes approaches for supervision from prospective PhD students in a variety of European law-related topics.
Current Student
