What Students say about their Placement Experiences

Overall I would recommend a placement here... the reason why I loved it so much was... the experience as a whole and not just the work placement.

I would certainly recommend the placement year to any student.  It has stimulated my brain in a way different to education and lectures and given me an insight into the realities of the working world and the difficulties that can be faced. I have dealt with all sorts of people, and have also seen the daily work of solicitors in a firm such as this. It has also helped confirm my plan to be a lawyer when I graduate.

I whole heartedly would recommend the professional training year to any law undergraduate. The experience and skills you develop during the year are absolutely huge, what’s more the placements available worldwide allow students like myself to work in places I would never have thought I would end up, plus it is great fun!

I would recommend the placement year as an invaluable experience to all who are considering it. The fact is that being exposed to work at such a high level has incredible benefits both to a student’s CV and it also allows growth as a professional. The contacts and more importantly the abilities to make contacts which are developed on placement are truly opportunities not to be passed by.

I would strongly recommend the Professional Training Year to future students as I feel that it holds such fantastic value it is one of the best things about the Law programme at the University of Surrey. Not only does it allow you to develop as a person in an environment which would otherwise remain a mystery until after graduation, but also, it allows for a fantastic opportunity to learn numerous skills and gain commercial awareness which are invaluable when applying for Training Contracts.

I feel that the Professional Training Year has undoubtedly added value to my CV and shows to prospective employers the level of commitment I have to my future career and the willingness and adaptability I have utilised over the last year. In addition, it allows you to really utilise the theoretical knowledge you have learned over the last two years of study as well as, in my case, allowing you to experience other areas of the law which you think you may be interested in studying or specialising in.

The Professional Training Year also allows for you to try your hand at areas which are outside the realm of legal work broadening your horizons, for example, with my work on the Marketing team I have been able to develop skills and an understanding of an important element of any business which I can now use going forward in my career.

Having completed the placement and being offered a position is very pleasing for me, it has given me the confidence and drive to try my very best to attain the 2.1 degree as I have a good grounding now with this fantastic experience. I have seen that it is imperative to work hard and strive to achieve your career goals.

Personally, I would recommend a Placement Training Year. Even though I have lived the past 10 years in the South of Spain, I felt that the study placement made me experience life in the North of Spain, along with its culture and gave me an idea what studying law means in a Spanish University.

I have experienced working alongside solicitors/caseworkers...  It has been a fantastic experience and I am extremely grateful to Surrey Law Centre for allowing me the opportunity to learn so much.
