Leadership Academy

The University of Surrey and the Research and Enterprise Support Department successfully secured funding for the Leadership Academy through an Economic Challenge Investment Fund grant from HEFCE. This funding ended in September 2010.

However, we are delighted to have been awarded funding for a new project called the Silver Academy. The project is funded by the EU and the University of Surrey through the EU People mini-programme under the Interregional Cooperation programme INTERREG IVC.

Run in partnership with the South East Chambers of Commerce, the project aims to provide support to individuals looking to set up their own business. The eligibility criteria are:

You must be over 50

Be based in the South East

Want to set up your own business/go self-employed

Be unemployed or facing redundancy

Or be struggling with a new business

Please contact the Project Officer if you require further information. You can also find out more information on the People Project website.

The Leadership Academy was a partnership between the University of Surrey, the Open University Business School, Royal Holloway, the University of Greenwich, and the Tavistock Institute of Human Relations, London. The aim of the programme was to help unemployed managers and businesses that need to innovate (particularly small and medium-sized enterprises and voluntary organisations) through the recession, by securing the skills they need to protect employment. This included development and training for those in work to enable them to continue in employment rather than be made redundant and training and development for those newly unemployed to improve their chances of re-employment.
