Assessment

This web page gives a short summary of some of the different ways in which the University assesses your knowledge and skills.

Each programme has a set of learning outcomes which are the knowledge and skills that students need to demonstrate to be awarded a degree.  The assessment methods are designed to test these learning outcomes.  The prospectus pages and programme specifications will give you more detail of the learning outcomes of specific degrees and some of the assessment methods used on each programme.  You will also be able to see even greater detail in module descriptions.  Some typical examples of assessment methods are:

• Examinations (under timed conditions)
• Class tests
• Written coursework such as essays, case studies, reports
• Dissertations/Projects
• Portfolios
• Oral assessments and presentations
• Practical skills assessment
• Set exercises and problems
