Mental Health Conditions

Additional Learning Support (ALS) welcome and support students with mental health conditions or who have a history of psychiatric treatment.  There is a network of support between ALS, the University mental health nurse and staff in the Centre for Wellbeing.

Contact Additional Learning Support to make an appointment to see a disability advisor, so that together we can discuss support for your studies.  Please bring along any recent assessments and / or evidence and, if you already have one, your needs assessment.

Support may include:

  • arranging extra time in examinations
  • support in applying for the Disabled Students’ Allowances (DSA), which could fund learning support or mentoring
  • liaison with academic staff

We treat information concerning mental health conditions confidentially and support is only set up with your consent. However, we encourage all students to disclose information relating to mental health conditions so that we can offer you the best support possible.

It is extremely important that you come and see us as soon as possible if you need examination adjustments, as there is a deadline date for submission.  Please do not leave it until the deadline date - that may be too late.
