Disabled Students Allowance (DSA)

The Disabled Students Allowance (DSA) is a non-means-tested grant for students with disabilities or specific learning difficulties (SpLD) studying in Higher Education.

Information and an application form are available at Student Finance England  or NHS Student Bursaries

  • You are eligible to apply for DSA when you have a firm offer of a place on a course and evidence of your disability 
  • Dyslexic students need to provide a post 16 diagnostic assessment and students with a physical disability will need recent medical evidence of their disability.
  • You should send your applications to Student Finance England or NHS Student Grants Unit.
  • To be eligible you should be a full-time or part-time (where you are studying at least 50% of the full-time course) undergraduate or postgraduate home student.
  • Full-time undergraduates must be eligible for a Student Loan for maintenance support for their course, to be eligible for the DSA.  If you are eligible for the student loan, but do not take it, you will still be eligible for DSA.
