How to put Journal Articles and Photocopied Extracts in the Collection
Staff can submit articles from existing Library material to the Collection; all items must be accompanied by a Copyright Declaration Form with proof of clearance, where necessary. The following details are required by law:
- Details of author
- Title of article/chapter
- Title of Journal/Book
- Date of Publication
- Lecturers name
- No. of students
- Module title
If staff want copies of articles not held in stock included in the Collection, they must apply by Interlibrary loan to the BLDSC to obtain copyright-cleared copies of the articles. Make sure that the Interlibrary loan request specifies copyright cleared on it.
All articles must have a submission date clearly stated. A maximum of 20 articles can be included in the Article Collection and no more than 4 copies of each item.
Items will be returned to staff if the above criteria are not met.
Copyright: Important Notice
Any submission to the Article Collection must comply with the provisions of copyright law and the University’s CLA licence. These specify the maximum amount that may be copied from a source without the publisher’s permission and may be summarised as follows:
- No more than one chapter of a book or 5%
- In the case of an article in an issue of a serial publication or in a set of conference proceedings, one whole article;
- In the case of an anthology of short stories or poems one short story or poem not exceeding ten (10) pages in length;
- In the case of a published report of judicial proceedings, the entire report of a single case
- Permission to copy excluded items or quantities in excess of the stated limits of the Licence must be sought from the individual publisher on each occasion. Written evidence must be supplied with the article BEFORE it can be added into the Article Collection. For further details, please contact your Liaison Librarian or see the Copyright Information web page.
Loan Periods
The Article Collection will be housed in the Short Loan Collection in the Library. All items will be on three hours loan library use only.
Removal of Items from the Collection
Articles can be removed from the Collection on request through your Liaison Librarian. Articles will be subject to regular review in consultation with Lecturers and Academic Liaison Librarians which will involve the Library periodically weeding out materials that are no longer required.
