Linking to Online Articles

Use direct links to online articles to help your students find and access the materials you have recommended.

Under the University’s Copyright Licensing Agency Licence you may scan readings and make them available via SurreyLearn, but if we have access to an online version in a database to which the Library subscribes you should link to it rather than scan from the print publication.

Some publishers / database suppliers allow you to download the PDF version of the article and upload it into SurreyLearn – others do not.  We recommend that you try to link to materials rather than uploading the full text.  If you do upload a full-text article you must give a full citation.

Many e-journals are available on database systems; if you search for an article the URL appearing in the address bar will often be very long and may not work off campus, or after a period of time, because it is created dynamically as the result of a database query.

Most publishers / suppliers allow you to create static or permanent URLs to full-text articles – see the table below.

If the publisher / supplier you want is not listed, or you are unable to create a link, please contact your Academic Liaison Librarian.
