Leadership for Researchers

Developing your team

This workshop is aimed at those who are aiming to become a research leader, lead their own research team, or move into a management / leadership role outside of academia. During this session you will explore leadership styles and building effective teams through practical activities and discussion. You will also be given ideas for helpful techniques to use in common situations that are encountered when leading and managing a team.

The session will be led by Janet Preston, Managing Director of Cold Fuzion business consultancy. Janet has extensive personal experience of managing and leading teams during her career. She has worked as a Partner at KPMG and at a number of blue chip companies including Ernst & Young, Perot Systems, and Hoechst.

PLEASE NOTE: Participants for this workshop must complete on an online questionnaire prior to the workshop. The results of this questionnaire will form an integral section of the workshop; therefore, you must complete the questionnaire before the workshop or you will not be able to take part.

During this workshop participants will explore:
• Leadership styles
• Stages of team development
• Getting the best from your team
• Team roles
• Helpful techniques to deal with conflict management, delegation, idea generation, and managing team members
