Researcher Development

Welcome to the Researcher Development Programme. We provide training and development opportunities for postgraduate research students and research staff. This includes comprehensive programmes of face-to-face training workshops, online resources, and supporting information. The training we offer covers areas such as:

  • personal and project management
  • working with others
  • academic / technical writing
  • presenting and publishing research
  • public communication
  • career management
  • intellectual property
  • enterprise and entrepreneurship

The Postgraduate Research Student area contains full details of the face-to-face workshop programme and supporting online / self-study resources, information about planning your skills development activities, and information on policies and procedures relating to the research degree process (such as the confirmation / transfer process, thesis preparation and viva).

The Research Staff area details the workshops and supporting online resources we offer to early-career researchers; information on relevant workshops offered by other providers (including Staff Development and the Careers Service) can also be found there.

The Academic Staff area contains details of policy and strategic elements relating to researcher skills development, also information on the training workshops for academics (on research degree supervision and examination) that we offer.
