Winter Lunchtime Series
This is your opportunity to come and have lunch with our invited guests and find out the answers to those questions you have always wanted to ask. Lunch will be provided.
Your career questions answered (28th February 2013, 1pm - 2pm)
Guest: Ann Henderson
Come and have lunch with our resident post-doctoral careers advisor. During this lunch we can discuss the job market, ideas for your future and what you should be doing now to get you where you want to be. This is your career and it is worth spending some time planning it out as you will spend a lot of time doing it.
Publishing impact, productivity and ethics (6th March 2013, 1pm – 2pm)
Guests: Pam Denicolo, Gill Dwyer and Michael Norris
As an early career researcher, you are expected to be a prolific publisher along with all the other aspects of your work. Come along and talk with a productive writer of research papers and books, an expert in publishing ethics and an expert in bibliometrics, impact and the universities publishing policy.
Lecturing and teaching (12th March 2013, 1pm – 2pm)
Guests: Simon Lygo-Baker and Bart Rienties
Are you teaching or lecturing at the moment or do you see yourself lecturing in the future? Come along and chat with experts in teaching from the department of higher education. Simon and Bart are both actively researching into student learning and professionalism in higher education, computer-supported collaborative learning, the role of motivation in learning, and the role of the teacher to design effective blended and online learning courses.
Research strategy and influencing government policy: How can early career researchers get involved? (19th April 2013, 1-2pm)
Guest: Professor Sir Christopher Snowden
Professor Sir Christopher Snowden will be the special guest at this informal lunch to discuss research strategy, policy and influencing the government. As well as being our President and Vice-Chancellor, Sir Christopher chairs the Royal Academy of Engineering’s Policy Group, is a member of the Prime Minister’s advisory Council for Science and Technology and sits on the governing body of the UK’s Technology Strategy Board.
This is a great opportunity to discuss and gain insight into research policy in Higher Education and industry, think about how you could get involved, how your research may inform policy, and discover how this may be relevant to your future career. There are limited places available at this session so please think of some questions you would like to ask / points you would like to discuss.
