Electronic Voting Handsets
Electronic Voting System
What is an Electronic Voting System?
At Surrey, we use an Electronic Voting System (EVS) to make your lectures and overall learning experience more interactive and interesting. In an EVS Lecture, you can use your own voting handset to respond anonymously to questions the lecturer asks.
All the results are then displayed, helping you and the lecturer see what you understand and highlighting any areas that may need more exploration. If students on a module using EVS do not have handsets then the lecture will be less effective.
Borrowing a Handset
The EVS handsets are available for individual loan via self-issue from the ground floor of the Library and you can only borrow one handset at a time.
Handsets are loaned in a protective security case. To unlock your handset's security case, use the de-coupler by the entrance to the Library. Please keep your handset in the unlocked case to protect it when carrying it to and from lectures.
Using Your Handset
At the start of the lecture your lecturer will project a channel number on screen. You need to set your handset to this channel or else it will not work in the session. Instructions are on the rear of the security case.
When responding to questions, a green light on the handset will display briefly to confirm that your response has been received.
Returning Your Handset
Handsets are issued for one semester. They cannot be self-returned like books and need to be placed in the EVS return box in the entrance to the Library. Please note that you will be fined if you lose your handset or if you damage it.
