Reservations

Reserving a Library Item

  • If all copies of a title are unavailable you can reserve the next available copy using the Library Catalogue
  • You need: your Borrower number (the number above the bar code on your campus card) and your 4 digit Library PIN (Personal Identification Number) which is available from the Ask Me Desk in the Library or by e-mail from library-enquiries@surrey.ac.uk

Items Out on Loan –Ordinary and 7 day loan books only

  • Find the book details on the Library catalogue
  • Click the ‘Request’ button
  • Enter your borrower number and PIN as prompted
  • Check the details are correct and click the ‘Confirm’ button
  • You will not be able to reserve an ordinary or 7 day copy if you have the short loan copy of that item on loan: in this case please ask at the Support Hub

Reserving Ordinary Loan Copies Only

  • Reservations will normally be made on ALL Ordinary or 7 day copies and you will receive whichever copy is returned first. If you wish to reserve an ORDINARY loan copy only, please complete a form at the Support Hub
  • Please note that an Ordinary loan copy will only be issued for 7 days if a further reservation has been placed upon it at the time of issue

Items on Order

  • Ask for a reservation form at the Support Hub
  • Write on the form the control number (this is usually the ISBN) from the catalogue and the author and title of the book
  • Staff will reserve the book and contact you when it arrives

Missing from Shelves - the book is not on loan nor on the shelf

  • Look again the next day as the book may have been used by a reader  in the Library
  • Check the trolleys awaiting shelving in the area nearest to where the book should be found
  • If still not found take the details, including barcode of item, to the Support Hub
  • Staff will reserve the item on your behalf and notify you when one is available

Items in Short Loan

  • One-day Short Loan reservations must be made by a member of the Library staff at the Support Hub
  • Complete a Short Loan reservation form (available from the Support Hub) and take it with your campus card to the Support Hub

Collecting Reserved Books

  • Use the ‘My library account’ option on the Library catalogue to check on progress for reservations. The reservation status will change from 'active' to ‘waiting' when it is available to you.
  • Readers  will be notified, usually by e-mail to their university e-mail account when the book has been returned
  • Ordinary Loan and 7 day loan books are kept for 7 working days from the date they are reserved for the reader. 1 day loans are kept for 24 hours from the time they are reserved for the reader.
  • Books can only be collected with a valid campus card from the Reservations Shelves on the 1st Floor

Already Reserved

Ordinary loan copies will be issued for 7 days only when other readers have also reserved this item and are non-renewable

NB: For a reservation for a 1 day loan book readers must regularly check ‘My library account’ on the catalogue, as availability is updated daily.
