Sound and Image (Audio Visual Materials)

CD's and DVD's

CD’s and DVD’s can be played on all PC’s in the Library and Learning Centre.

Please provide your own headphones.

AV Equipment

A range of Audio-Visual equipment is located on Level 2 of the Library and Learning Centre.

Level 2 – Library

• 2 multipurpose workstations (CD/Turntable/Cassette players/Amplifiers)
• 1 DVD/video player with monitor

Level 2 – Learning Centre (Sound and Image Area)

• DVD and Video players with monitors and cassette players are available in the Language Study Area.  (Headphones are provided for this equipment).
• Electronic piano keyboard
• Widescreen PC’s

Please note:
• PC’s require small headphone plugs.
• Keyboard and multipurpose workstations require a large headphone plug or an adaptor.

Group Study Rooms

These can be booked by students who wish to work in a group and watch a DVD as part of their coursework.  Suitable rooms are:

Group Study Room 4 - Screen, computer, seating for 10 people (Learning Centre)
Group Study Room 5 - Screen, computer, seating for 10 people (Learning Centre)
Group Study Room 6 - Screen, computer, seating for 10 people (Learning Centre)

Group Study Rooms can be booked online.

Finding AV Materials

• Check the Library Catalogue 
• In the collection box select Recordings from the drop down list
• Find the shelfmark for the item

All CD’s, audio cassettes, DVD’s, videos and Multi-media materials are shelved on Level 2 of the new Learning Centre.

Vinyl records are located on Level 2 in the Library.

Staff may borrow AV material for up to a week on a temporary basis for teaching purposes, by prior arrangement with the relevant Academic Liaison Librarian.

Loaning and Returning AV Materials

All CD’s and DVD’s are available on 1 day loan and are stored in lockable boxes.

CD’s and DVD’s should be returned unlocked through the self return system as usual.  Please ensure you check that the CD/DVD is in the box when you return it.

There will be a self issue machine and unlocking device on Level 2 by the DVD’s.
In the interim:
Once you have issued the item to yourself, please take it to the Reception desk on Level 1 of the Learning Centre to be unlocked.

NB:  it is illegal to copy any media format using the Library AV equipment. Anyone found copying media will be liable to Library disciplinary procedures.
