GSA Resources

Books

• The majority of books on theatre, plays, acting and voice technique, monologues, biographies and speech books can be found on Level 5 of the Library. 
• Check the guide to shelfmarks on the GSA ‘My Subject’ page, on the library catalogue or on the Library’s search engine Summon, to find the shelfmark and location of items.
• Music scores, libretti and anthologies can be found on Level 2 of the Learning Centre.
• Books in heavy demand are 1 day loans and are in the Short Loan collection on Level 1.  7 day loans are shelved with ordinary loan books on Levels 4 and 5.
• Past Showcase info and dissertation examples are kept at GSA

E-Books

Some books are available electronically - search for these on the Library catalogue or on Summon.  

CD’s, Voice and Accent CD’s, DVD’s and Videos

AV resources are located on Level 2 of the Learning Centre.   They are kept in lockable boxes.

To borrow CDs, DVDs and videos, take the items to the Self Issue machines on Level 1 or Level 2 and add them to your record. Then unlock the box using the box unlockers which are located on the Ground Level, Level 1 and Level 2.  Some Videos and DVD's are 1 day loans, some will also be Library Use Only.

Access to Resources off campus

Most electronic resources are available off campus.  In order to access electronic resources off campus you need to set the Athens cookie.  Follow the link to this on the My Subject webpage.

Journals and Magazines

Journals can be either published in printed or electronic format or both. 

Printed Journals  

Print copies of journals are on Level 2 in title order.  Current issues are on Level 1.  Use the Library computer catalogue or Summon to find the exact holdings for each journal title.

Electronic Journals 

You can search for Electronic Journals by title on the catalogue, on Summon or follow the link on the My Subject page to Ejournals@Surrey.  View full-text articles, save or print them.

Newspapers

• Current newspapers, including The Stage, are on Level 1, older newspapers are on Level 2.
• Newspapers can also be read electronically via the Nexis database online.  Click on the link to databases on the My Subject page and scroll down the list to Nexis.
• The Times Digital Archive (1785-1985) is the complete digital edition of The Times (London). Search for articles, advertisements and illustrations/photos.

Databases

• Search the online databases to find out what journal articles are available on a particular topic.  
• Useful databases are LION (Literature Online) and IIPA (International Index to Performing Arts).  
• The My Subject page has a link to a list of databases and help guides for GSA.
