The Short Loan Collection

The Short Loan Collection is located adjacent to Lending Services and provides students and staff of the University access to heavily used core books and other reading list materials.
There is a self issue/return machine available for one day loan transactions.
There is an alarmed exist gate so please make sure materials have been issued to you before leaving the Short Loan area.
Materials from the Short Loan collection cannot be loaned out to external members of the Library and may not be issued elsewhere in the Library.

Books recommended by a lecturer and those that are in ‘heavy demand’ are placed on Short Loan. Categories are:1 Day and 3 Hours.
Contact an Academic Liaison Librarian via the Information Desk staff to recommend books in heavy demand to go into Short Loan.

These are articles and photocopied extracts submitted by lecturers.
Items are shelved alphabetically under the author’s name and may be identified in the main library catalogue under “Author” and “Title” or “Keywords”.
Articles are for ‘Library Use’ only but can be photocopied.
Articles are issued at the Short Loan desk for 3 hours so that they can be used in a Library study area.

Student and staff may borrow up to 6 Short Loan items in addition to the ‘ordinary’ loan limit.
We recommend the use of Short Loan books only if there are no ordinary or 7 day copies available.
3 hour loan books may be borrowed overnight 3 hours prior to the end of ‘serviced’ opening, but must be returned no later than 1 hour after opening the following day. On Saturdays they are issued from 3pm until one hour after opening on Monday.

1 day loans can be renewed online by logging in to My Account or by telephone on 01483 689235. Further information on renewals is available on help leaflet No4.
Reserved books cannot be renewed.
3 Hour Loans cannot be renewed and must be returned to the Lending Services Desk by the date and time written on the date label.
