My Campus Card
Your campus card is needed for:
- entry to, and using the services of, the Library
- access to other buildings
- as a Students' Union identity card.
The card is not transferable. Misuse of your campus card may lead to withdrawal of Library facilities.
Getting a Campus Card
Campus cards can be obtained from the Library Membership desk on production of documentation giving your University Number - this is available from the Registry (for students) and Payroll (for staff) and some form of personal ID.
During University Semester, cards can be produced on weekdays 09:00 - 20:00.
At weekends and evenings, Bank Holidays and out of semester opening hours may differ.
Please consult the Library opening hours for up to date information
Library Use
You will need your campus card in order to:
- Enter the Library building
- Borrow material from the library
- Use the self-issue machines
- Obtain your PIN (Personal Identification Number, a 4 digit number)
- Reserve, cancel or renew short loan material
- Collect Inter Library Loans
- Pay library fines
Access to Buildings
The campus card uses the University Security system to regulate and control out of hours access on the University campus. The procedure to gain access to a building/room is as follows:
- Student/staff member applies to their Departmental Safety Officer (or other nominated person responsible for building access). The card number is the 6-digit number appearing below the barcode.
- Once access to the appropriate areas is approved, the details are forwarded to the Security Department for them to input the information onto the access control system.
- Once this information has been entered into the security system, the card will be active and can be used in the approved areas.
Student Union
Students
Students are automatically members of the Student Union (and therefore the NUS) and of the Student Union Club.
Student members may 'opt out' of the Union and relinquish certain entitlements associated with their membership of the organisation
To do this the student must contact the President of the Student Union before 31 October of the academic year.
If a student does opt out of the Student Union, their card will be retained by the President and a new campus card without the NUS logo can be requested from the Library
Staff
Membership of the Student Union Club is automatic for staff of the University of Surrey. Staff who wish to 'opt out' must apply in writing to the President of the Student Union explaining their reasons.
A new campus card without the Union logo can be requested from the Library
Details of the differences between these types of membership and associated entitlements are available from the Student Union President
Replacing a Card
Replacement date expired/alterations
The Library will renew the card free of charge during the last month of validity, provided the cardholder continues as a member of the University of Surrey
It will be the responsibility of the cardholder to report to the Library to have their card replaced and then to Security for access control renewal
A replacement card will be issued at no charge for a change of name or title. Any changes should first be reported to Registry (students) or Payroll (staff).
Damage
Your card is a valuable document which must be looked after
A charge of £8.50 will be made to replace a campus card which has been damaged through neglect
Cards which have become worn or cease to work through normal use will be replaced free of charge
Lost/Stolen Cards
Cardholders whose cards are lost or stolen must report the matter first to Security and their Department and then to the Library
A charge of £8.50 will be made for the replacement of a lost card
Where a card has been stolen, if proof is provided (a crime report number obtained from the police) then a replacement card will be issued free of charge
Suitable ID must be shown (e.g. driving licence, payslip, passport) before a card can be issued
