External Membership for Surrey Research Park Employees

Staff employed by companies on Surrey Research Park for 6 months or more may join the University Library as external non-paying members.

Entitlements:

Research Park members of the University Library may:

Borrow up to 4 Ordinary Loan books for 2 weeks (no short or 7-day loans).
Use printed reference material and periodicals.
Use photocopying facilities (cash credits may be added to Library cards when visiting the Library).
Request Inter-Library Loans for books not held in the Library (for a non-refundable charge of £10.00 per item payable in advance to the Information Desk during serviced hours – ILL forms available at the same desk). (NB: Copies of journal articles not available in the Library would be more cheaply and quickly ordered direct from the British Library – see http://direct.bl.uk/bld/Home.do).
Access online resources under specific terms and conditions for non-commercial use by visitors (see Accessing online resources as a visitor).

To apply for external membership of the library of the University of Surrey:

Send an email to library-enquiries@surrey.ac.uk  providing the following:

1. Personal Information:  

• Full name – including title
• Home address
• Telephone number
• Name of employer

2. Attachment

Please provide an attachment showing confirmation of employment. For example a scanned letter on Company letterhead signed by the company on a permanent or temporary contract. If on a temporary contract you must state when the contract finishes.

When the library has received the appropriate information we will create a record for you and email you with your number within 5 working days. You should bring this number as well as photo ID to the Ask Me Desk on level one of the Library and Learning Centre during staffed hours.

Please note:

• Library membership cards are issued for 2 years (or to the date upon which the applicant’s contract of employment ends between 6 and 24 months).

• Surrey Research Park employees with short term contracts of less than six months may apply at the Reception Desk for a Visitor Pass. Photo ID and an email address is required

Renewal procedures:

Current employees may have their membership records renewed on expiry by visiting the Library during serviced hours bringing with them a further letter from the employee’s contact is due to end with the normal 2 years (or to the date upon which the applicant’s contract of employment ends between 6 and 24 months) renewal period this must be stated in the letter.
