STARS at Surrey
Welcome to the University of Surrey STARS programme.
STARS is a unique differentiated development scheme designed to identify the needs of, and offer support to, high achieving second and final year students here at the University of Surrey.
STARS currently targets students entering level 5 (second year) who have achieved an average of over 70% in year 1
A multidisciplinary STARS team, consisting of a core from the Learning Development team in SPLASH, but including colleagues from across the university (and beyond) offers students opportunities to participate in developmental activities relating to issues including: perfectionism, resilience, team work, leadership and advanced communication skills
The STARS pilot first ran in 2011-12 and students reported improvements in motivation, development in academic and non-academic competencies and increased academic self-efficacy as a result of having participated. A report on the first year of the pilot is available.
The pilot project has been extended in 2012-13 to include a wider range of students across level 5 and level 6 and also includes students engaged on their Professional Training Year (PTY).
