Logging in

If you are on-campus then normally, no special login is required.

If you are off-campus or find that you can’t log into an eBook, eJournal or database that the University is subscribed to, then you may need to use:

1. Institutional Login
2. Remote Access
3. Gateway
4. A password
5. On-campus access only

Institutional Login

This is the most common login method.

1. Use the links on the Library Databases page or
2. Look for the Institutional login on the provider site, where it may be called:

• UK Federation Login
• Institutional Login
• Shibboleth Login
• Academic Sign in
• Home Organisation

Once you have clicked on a link, select University of Surrey (or UK Federation followed by University of Surrey).
You will then be directed to the University of Surrey login page:

Use your University account username and password to login.

Remote Access

Please only use this method when Institutional Login (above) is not available.

1. Go to http://remote.surrey.ac.uk
2. Log in with your University username and password (please check that the Realm box shows Active Directory)
3. Click on the "Library Resources" link
4. Scroll down the page to find the link you need
5. After clicking on the link, you will be logged in

Gateway

Some sites require you to log in via the Gateway page.

1. Log into the Gateway page with your University username and password
2. Follow the link to the site you need:

Password

Some sites require individual passwords.

1. Go here: http://www.surrey.ac.uk/library/Private/password.htm
2. Log in with your University login and password
3. Find the site you need in the list
4. Note the password and username if required
5. Click on the link provided
