The main source of dance reviews for all types of dance presentations are international, national and local newspapers.
The Library takes certain daily British broadsheet newspapers. Recent copies are on Level 1 of the Library and older copies are kept on Level 2.
British newspapers and a huge variety of international papers can also be read electronically on Nexis which also provides online access to Le Monde or Le Figaro.
For recent dance performances, use the online newspaper archives in Nexis for published reviews. For older performances, you will need to locate reviews published at the time of the event. It helps for you to know, the title of the ballet, play; the year and preferably the month of the performance and also the name of the choreographer or performer.
Use books in the Library about the work concerned or its choreographer or performer to help identify these details. Or use the following reference books:
International encyclopedia of dance
Encyclopedia of dance and ballet
Times Digital Archive, 1785-1985: The complete digital edition of The Times (London) capturing the entire newspaper, with all articles, advertisements and illustrations/photos divided into categories to facilitate searching.
Also of interest may be The Times (1910-1999) and The Sunday Times (1970-1999) which are held on microform on Level 2 of the Library.
The video and DVD collections are kept on Level 2 of the Learning Centre.
To borrow CDs, DVDs and videos, take the items to the Self Issue machines on Level 1 or Level 2 and add them to your record. Then unlock the box using the box unlockers which are located on the Ground Level, Level 1 and Level 2. Some Videos and DVD's are 1 day loans, some will also be Library Use Only.
- On Level 2 near the Language centre - DVD's and Video's - No booking needed.
- At any of the PCs (Please use Headphones)
If you are searching for a video or DVD on a particular topic, use a keyword search on the Library catalogue.
