Standards & Patents

This guide will tell you which sets of standards are available and where to find them.

 

ASTM

  • The 2005 Annual Book of ASTM Standards is on Floor 2 and shelved at 'A' in the Abstracts section
  • Use the subject index (volume 00.01) to locate the correct volume for a specific standard.
  • ASTM standards are for reference use only and cannot be taken out of the Library. You may make a photocopy of relevant pages.

 

British standards

British Standards Online (BSI)

  • Search for any BS or EN standard on this web site.
  • When you have identified the standard you want you may view the full-text online and print out relevant pages subject to the BSI Copyright conditions. This requires your valid Athens Username and Password.

 

British Standards - for civil & structural engineering

  • The Construction Information Service is available online and all UniS staff and students can search for around 3,000 British Standards relating to Civil & Structural Engineering. Easy PDF retrieval of full-text of British Standards is available with your valid Athens Username and Password.

 

IEC

  • Search the International Electrotechnical Commission databases for standards, projects and working documents at http://www.iec.ch/

IEEE

 

ITU

  • ITU-R and ITU-T Recommendations can be viewed by following the link from the Library ejournals pages
  • To view the full text you need to enter a username and password. There is a link to the password page on the same page as the link to the ITU (you may need your University email username and login to access the password page)

 

ISO

  • There is often a BSI equivalent for ISO Standards. Search on the BSI Online web site, entering the ISO number. e.g. ISO 527-2 has a BS number BS EN ISO 527-2
  • If you do not find the standard you want, then search on the ISO web site at http://www.iso.ch/

 

Other Standards

  • CSSInfo indexes standards from many worldwide organizations. Search their web catalogue at http://www.cssinfo.com/ for the standard you are looking for. When you have all the details you can fill out an Interlibrary Loan form and we will obtain the standard for you on loan.

 

Patents

  • Patents
    Search for worldwide patents via the UK Patent Office [not full text]
  • QPAT - US
    The Abstracts of all U.S. patents issued since 1974 are searchable (free registration).
    The full-text database is available on subscription only.
