The simplest and quickest way to find good quality academic reading relevant to your lectures and assignments is to search for the online reading list using your module code. This will link you directly to eBooks and articles in eJournals as well as trustworthy websites. These lists can also be accessed via SurreyLearn.
Subject databases are online searchable collections providing access to a range of information including journal articles, newspapers and trade papers. Some databases will link to the full text of articles, others will only provide the reference.
Please see your Academic Liaison Librarian for advice about searching the databases.
Journals and eJournals are available in print or online and are published frequently, i.e. monthly, quarterly. Journals can be peer reviewed: read by other experts in the field prior to publication. Search the catalogue or eJournals to find journal titles or Summon and the databases to find articles. Print journals are available on Level 2.
eBooks allow you to access textbooks online either in subject areas or larger collections.
For dictionaries try Credo Reference.
Newspapers are available online using the Nexis database. Print copies of some of the broadsheet newspapers are available on Level 1 and older copies are kept on Level 2. A digital edition of The Times (London) from 1785-1985 is also available online via the subject databases.
