Abstract: Binocular rivalry occurs when two very different images are presented to the two eyes. Previous models for this phenomenon have been either phenomenological rate models or more realistic spiking neuron models. Few attempts have been made to derive the former type of model from the latter. We give such a derivation, using data-mining techniques to automatically extract appropriate variables for a low-dimensional description.
