Abstract: Different notions of dimension and porosity quantify the degree of singularity of a fractal measure. Even though the ideas behind dimension and porosity are different, there are many non-trivial relationships between them.
In this talk I'm going to define the basic concepts and give a panorama of recent results. I will then focus on mean porosity of measures, and give the main idea behind the proof of a result stated by Beliaev and Smirnov, but with an incorrect proof. Even though the result is purely geometric, the proof uses ideas from probability and dynamics.
