Four Nuffield Science Bursaries awarded to the Maths Department

The Department of Mathematics is pleased to announce that four Nuffield Science Bursaries have been awarded to outstanding undergraduate students to participate in research projects here during the summer of 2009.

The successful applicants for the prestigious Nuffield Science Bursaries are:

  • Chris Evans, who will investigate "Approximate energy conservation for symplectic discretizations of semilinear wave equations", with Dr Claudia Wulff
  • Jeevan Rai, who will look into "Algorithms for constructing Lie algebra automorphisms" with Prof Peter Hydon
  • Craig Sheppard, who will explore "Birth rate distribution and ecological competition" with Dr Stephen Gourley
  • James Wright, who will consider "Prevalence of chaotic dynamics in the logistic and Henon maps, and validity of the 0-1 test for chaos" with Prof Ian Melbourne
