Experts say Chalara ash tree dieback poses a serious danger to 80 million ash trees.

Forestry expert Professor Jim Lynch, Distinguished Professor of Life Sciences (Emeritus), at the University of Surrey, says new technologies to tackle such diseases like mapping from satellites in space.

Prof Lynch says: “We need innovation We took action over sudden oak death but in any disease outbreak there are different triggers and we need different action to be taken. We should have seen the present elm disease earlier than we did and we need to take action.”

The government has warned that there could be "very serious consequences" as a result of the disease, which has been confirmed at many areas across the country.
