Tourism for Peace and Development Award

Professor David Airey from the University of Surrey was recently presented with the 'Tourism for Peace and Development' award by the Russian International Academy of Tourism (RIAT) at a ceremony in Moscow. The award was in recognition of his contribution to professional tourism education. He was in Moscow at the invitation of RIAT.
Whilst in Russia, Professor Airey also held discussions with the directors of the Academy and made two presentations.
The first, to the faculty and postgraduate students of the Academy, was entitled: 'Forty Years of Tourism: have we reached maturity?' The theme of this presentation related to the fact that the Academy celebrates its fortieth anniversary in 2009.
The second presentation was to members of the Central Council for Tourism and Leisure on the 'Challenges of Modern Tourism Education Provision'. In this talk he also spoke about the role of the UN World Tourism Organization Education and Science Council in helping to meet these challenges. The University of Surrey currently holds the chair of the Council.
