Surrey Science Circus
Wednesday 24 September 2008
Saturday, September 20 saw the second annual Surrey Science Circus unveil an array of fun-filled, science based educational talks and shows.
The University of Surrey was host to nearly 3000 visitors of all ages from across the region, all on campus to experience and get involved in fun and inspirational science. Ten different themed shows entertained the crowds from 'The Science of Doctor Who' presented by Paul Parsons to the Science Museum’s Bubble and Feel the Force shows.
There was plenty to do throughout the day when visitors weren't attending the talks, a hands on zone enabled children to get involved in experiments, 3D image their faces, view cells under microscopes and performances from Burnt Toast and Titan the 8ft Robot out on the Piazza in the glorious sunshine wowed the crowds.
Also attending the event were entrants from a variety of local schools who had submitted artwork for entry into the Visualisation of Science Art Competition. A collection of photographs, paintings, collages and models on the theme of energy competed for the £50 prizes awarded by Paul Parsons.
All in all it was a fun-packed successful day where the local community were able to really experience science at its best!
Next year the Surrey Science Circus will be taking a break to make way for the BA Festival of Science, further details can be found at www.the-ba.net
