Relax, Invigorate, Enjoy! A journey through voice styles

Monday 15 September 2008

The University of Surrey's Music Department is pleased to invite associate voice teacher Heather Keens to perform at a free lunchtime recital on Wednesday 17 September. Commencing at 1.10 p.m. the programme will include a range of repertoire including Mozart, Leonard Bernstein, Duke Ellington and James Taylor.

The variety of repertoire in the concert makes it a great concert to attend if you are tempted but have never been to a lunchtime concert at the University before. It is an excellent way to relax during your lunch break and take your mind off the working week; the concert will invigorate and prepare your mind for the afternoon.

Heather completed her music training at The Royal College of Music in London and is a performer, singing teacher and qualified voice teacher. Her performing career has taken her around the world, singing in both Opera and Music Theatre for companies such as Lumiere & Son Theatre Company, UK; Martina Franca Opera Festival, Italy; and Opera Queensland and Queensland Theatre Company, Australia.

Heather comments: "The aim of this recital is to explore and perform some of the possibilities of vocal gesture and vocal colouring through a variety of musical styles. It is a journey through changing voice."

The concert takes place in the Performing Arts Technology Studio One (PATS) on the University of Surrey’s Stag Hill Campus. Free entry. For further enquires please contact Jamie Harber on 01483 686517.

Lunchtime concerts take place every Wednesday at 1.10 p.m. in PATS Studio One. Normally given by undergraduate and postgraduate students specialising in performance, the repertoire at these concerts is extremely varied. It is a great opportunity to hear some familiar and not so well known works. Feel free to pop down during your lunch break, if only for 20 minutes, as you may come and go between performances. Programmes for these events are not usually available in advance but can be emailed to you a few days before the recital.
