Surrey Professor elected to prestigious European Academy
Wednesday 25 June 2008
Professor Greville Corbett of the Surrey Morphology Group at the University of Surrey has been elected as a member of the pan-European Academy of Sciences, Humanities and Letters, the Academia Europæa, as part of its Linguistics Section.
The Academia Europæa was founded in 1988, following initiatives in which the Royal Society played a key role. The Academia Europaea covers all academic disciplines: physical sciences and technology, biological sciences and medicine, mathematics, the letters and humanities, social and cognitive sciences, economics and the law, in fact everything from Archaeology to Zoology. New members are admitted following a peer review selection process, by invitation only.
The Academia is able to name over 40 Nobel Laureates within its membership; and the Linguistics Section to which Professor Corbett has been elected has only some 40 members.
Professor Corbett comments, "I am delighted by this honour; I believe it reflects the high standing of the research of the Surrey Morphology Group, across the European research area."
