Media invitation – UK’s first ever course in Natural Orifice Transluminal Endoscopic Surgery
Monday 23 June 2008
The University of Surrey at Guildford invites members of the media to the Minimal Access Therapy Training Unit at its Postgraduate Medical School to attend the first ever course in Natural Orifice Transluminal Endoscopic Surgery to be held in the UK on June 27 – 28. The course will demonstrate the use of the body’s own natural orifices in the use of keyhole surgery.
The hands-on course, which will be directed by a pioneer in keyhole surgery Professor Michael Bailey, will see a number of renowned surgeons from around the world converge to lecture, discuss and demonstrate advances in the field of surgery using the body’s own natural orifices rather than making any incisions (cuts) on the skin. A full schedule is below. The course will include talks on major advances as well as a video transmission of a live operation.
The advantages of keyhole surgery are now well-known; it is less invasive and enables quicker patient recuperation times than traditional surgery techniques. It is thought that the use of the body’s own natural orifices will multiply these benefits to patients.
