Surrey Physics student wins prestigious award from the Chinese Government
Mr Tao Wang, a PhD student in the Soft Condensed Matter Group in the Department of Physics at the University of Surrey, recently won a prestigious award sponsored by the China Scholarship Council. Tao is one of only 26 PhD students in the UK and 301 worldwide to receive this recognition this year. He collected a certificate and a cheque for 5000 US dollars from the Chinese Embassy in London.
First launched in 2003, the award annually recognises the top Chinese students undertaking full-time PhD research training overseas. Applicants for the award are evaluated on their research achievements.
Professor Joe Keddie, who supervises Tao’s research, said: "I am very pleased that Tao has been recognised as one of the top scientists of his generation. This success follows on from his previous awards from the Institute of Physics and from his bursary to attend the Lindauer Nobel Conference."
