Surrey student named top Master of UAE

Dr Nayazi Helal was recently presented with the Shaikh Rashid Award for Scientific Distinction for best Masters Degree completed by any United Arab Emirate student throughout the world. Dr Helal was given the award in a ceremony patronised by H.H. Shaikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum (Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai) for the work on his Masters in Occupational Health and Safety from which he graduated from the University of Surrey with Merit in December 2006.. The title of his Masters was ‘Prevalence of Occupational Noise Induced Hearing Loss in a Metal-Working Factory in Abu-Dhabi.’
This is not the first time Dr Helal’s work has been recognised as he has also received a Certificate from the President of the Institution of Safety and Health for his poster display presented at the National Conference.
Since completing his Masters, Dr Helal has kept up his relationship with the University of Surrey, completing a Training Programme covering the Practical aspects of Occupational Health/Medicine Occupational Hygiene and Occupational Safety, and attending the Diploma in Occupational Medicine Training Programme. Since then he has also commenced a PhD.
His co-supervisor on his PhD Dr Jen Edgar comments: "As one of the most promising students on the Masters course, Nayazi always demonstrated a high degree of commitment and professionalism. I am delighted to see this recognised in his award for Scientific Distinction at this level. Many congratulations to Dr Nayazi Helal."
