The University of Surrey Chinese Earthquake Appeal
Monday 19 May 2008
The Chinese Students and Scholars Association at the University of Surrey will be joining forces with the Red Cross on Friday 23 May to raise money for the earthquake victims in China.
The University was saddened to hear of the earthquake and extends its sympathies to the Chinese community. Staff and students who wish to may contact the University's Counselling and Health Centres as sources of emotional and practical support at this difficult time, and students encountering financial difficulties related to the disaster should visit Student Advice, Wey Flats 1-2 Surrey Court for information, advice and guidance.
The 7.9 magnitude earthquake, which struck to the northwest of Sichuan's provincial capital, Chengdu was the worst to hit China in 32 years and reduced many buildings in the area to rubble. The death toll rose sharply to more than 50,000, as the authorities appealed for more than 3m tents to shelter the homeless.
If you would like to make a donation, please visit the University Library or the School of Management Foyer on Friday 23 May from 10.00 a.m. - 6.00 p.m.
All donations will be greatly appreciated.
