New world disorder: How can the international community respond?

Lord Hannay will give a talk entitled 'New world disorder: How can the international community respond?' as part of the University of Surrey Department of Political, International and Policy Studies Spring Seminar Series. The event will take place in Room 75, 2nd Floor, School of Management on Wednesday 14 May, 12.00 p.m. - 1.30 p.m.

Lord Hannay was a minister at the British Embassy in Washington DC in 1984-1985, and was then promoted to ambassador and permanent representative to the European Economic Community from 1985 to 1990. He then spent the next five years as ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations.

Most recently he has taken on specialised roles such as Special Representative for Cyprus between 1996 and 2003 and a member of the UN High Level Panel on Threats, Challenges and Change, reporting to the Secretary General in December 2004.

In 2001 he was created a life peer as Baron Hannay of Chiswick, of Bedford Park in the London Borough of Ealing and made Pro-Chancellor of the University of Birmingham.
