Short Course in Composite Technology and Smart Systems

The Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences at the University of Surrey cordially invites students and professionals to attend the course in Composite Technology and Smart Systems to be held at the University in Guildford from June 9 until June 13 2008.

his is an intensive, one-week short-course introducing the concepts and practicalities of Smart Systems within a Composite Materials context. Delegates will be presented with an overview of composite materials technology and design, together with an introduction to smart composite materials techniques, from an understanding of the principles of guided waves and optical fibres through to lectures from industrialists on commercial perspectives and practical applications such as structural health monitoring for aircraft applications. Dielectric monitoring, self-healing/self-sensing systems and piezoelectric sensor systems will also be explained and discussed.
