UniSPORT assists girls to groove the night away at the Electric Theatre

More than 150 girls from across Guildford recently staged a dance performance, entitled ‘Guildford Grooves’ at the Electric Theatre.
The girls had all been involved in weekly dance clubs at their schools, with instruction provided by specialists from Campusdance, who are based at UniSPORT at the University of Surrey.
The dance clubs are run with the intention of providing the girls with an opportunity to be physically active, and to help them boost their confidence while doing so.
Laura Robinson, Campusdance Manager, comments: "I think the performances have shown that you don’t need to be a sports star to achieve something special, and that everybody can enjoy being active. UniSPORT has enjoyed working with all the schools and pupils, and we very much hope that they will visit us at the University to make the most of the varied dance programme that we run for the local community."
Campusdance provides the biggest University dance and movement programme outside of London. Whether you are a beginner or a professional, there is something for everyone.
The clubs have been organised by Andy Morrison School Sport Co-ordinator for the Mid Surrey School Sport Partnership, which is based at the George Abbot and St Peter’s schools in the town. Andy has worked very hard to ensure that 15 Schools have been able to run a club.
He comments: "It has been very satisfying to see the students taking part. These girls might not normally be inclined to join in an after school club based around physical activity, but hopefully they’ve enjoyed this opportunity and will do so again in the future. With out the money from the Big Lottery Fund, we would never have had the resources to run this."
