Media Invitation: Recovery After Work

The University of Surrey cordially invites members of the media to participate at the above workshop which has been organised to bring together international researchers in the broad areas of psychology, biology, medicine and ergonomics who have an interest in the multi-disciplinary aspects of recovery from work. The workshop will be take place at Surrey’s Continuing Education Centre on 31 March – 1 April, and will be opened by the Health & Safety Executive UK.

The 2-day workshop is being organised by Dr Mark Cropley and Jason Devereux, University of Surrey, in collaboration with Sabine Sonnentag (University of Konstanz), Terry Hartig (Uppsala University) and Gerhard Blasche (University of Vienna).

The workshop will further discussions at a symposium on recovery convened last May in Stockholm at the European Congress of Work and Organisational Psychology. Its aim is to address the following topics:

  • Antecedents (resources involved, work relatedness, and individual diversity);
  • Processes (biological and psychological pathways);
  • Activities (recovery/coping activities);
  • Environments (physical and social environments);
  • Outcomes (Cognitive, physiological, & behavioural).

An edited special journal issue or book based on the presentations and discussions at the meeting will be published. The objective of the workshop is to lay the foundations for an international network dedicated to the study of recovery at work.
