Stand Up and Be Heard!
Tuesday 29 January 2008
The University of Surrey invites all those interested in business to attend a free enterprise seminar entitled: Stand Up and Be Heard! The seminar will be given by Steve Catchick in Room 01AC02, SCEPTrE, AC Building (see www.surrey.ac.uk/sceptre/contact.htm for directions) on Monday 3 March, 5 p.m. – 7 p.m.
Do you dread and avoid having to stand up and present or speak in front of everyone? What is it that makes this so daunting? Would you like to know how this could be made less intimidating? Almost everyone has the ability to present or speak in front of people and Steve will gently lead you along the path of self-knowledge demystifying the process for you, allowing confidence to develop.
This session will have an interactive element and there will be a short period at the end where some of the audience will be invited to try the skills they have learnt, if they wish. This would be in the form of a 1-2 minute slot to speak on a subject of choice, whether, for example, an elevator pitch for a business you are starting, a Society you belong to, a hobby, your life/work/cat or even what you think about the session.
Steve’s varied career includes the armed forces, customer engineer in data communications, account manager in IT, and finally a trainer and coach. He has delivered training to individual professionals, and also to corporate companies such as IBM sales and field engineers.
He is an accomplished public speaker and an active member of Maidenhead Speakers club, (MHS), serving on the committee. MHS is a part of Toastmasters International, an International Speaking organisation. He firmly advocates the benefits of Leadership and public speaking that Toastmasters provides, and also runs courses in presentation and speaking skills himself.
He is also master practitioner and certified trainer of NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) and is a member of both the British and American Board of NLP, and the International Coaching Federation. http://www.xlresults.com
