Steve Cottingham named best student at Guildford: Life with Style awards 2007/2008
Thursday 24 January 2008
Guildford: Life with Style has recognised University of Surrey student and Farnborough resident Steve Cottingham as the most outstanding student/trainee of the year.
In a tough category with many nominees, Steve was shortlisted as one of three finalists and invited to the ceremony held at the Guildhall in Guildford town centre on Wednesday, January 23, which was hosted by Peter Gordon from 96.4 The Eagle.
Steve is a mature politics student at the University of Surrey. He is battling a serious illness, but still finds time to do many an important job in and around the University. He devotes hours of his time to the Men’s Football club, managing 4 teams, arranging fixtures, organising officials and most recently managing the promotion of the club to the intermediate league.
Steve is an ambassador for the University and is often seen at open days promoting the University to potential students. He is Chair of the Students’ Union Sports Executive Committee, constantly striving to make sport better and more accessible.
On winning the award, Steve said "It is such a shock but a lovely surprise. I never expected that I would win the award. The University is such an important part of Guildford and it is nice to receive this on behalf of the University as well as for myself."
Steve will be at Surrey for another year and has promised to help the football club with their transition into the new league. He will also be training another student to take over the reigns once he graduates.
