UniS Big Band

Now in its tenth year, the Band keeps going from strength to strength. Success seems to come naturally and the Band has achieved the hat-trick of three Gold Awards at the National Finals of the BASBWE festival with full marks in all categories.

The Band has played all over the South East, including gigs in local pubs, clubs and charity events and the Guildford International Music Festival. Members have also worked with a number of Surrey schools, giving master classes to students and giving joint performances with school bands.

Gemini David Lovatt Composition Prize

This concert commemorates a much-loved University of Surrey student who graduated two decades ago, but who sadly died in summer 2002. David Lovatt was a keen and gifted composer, and this award in his memory complements the University’s other prizes in composition with a world première and CD recording of the winning work by Gemini, the University’s Artists in Residence.

We are delighted that Sir Peter will adjudicate and present the award.

A concert of chamber works by Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, including Ave Maris Stella which Gemini have recorded to be released on the Divine/Metier label.
