Surrey celebrates National Science and Engineering Week
Thursday 21 February 2008
The University of Surrey announces free lectures to celebrate this year’s National Science and Engineering Week in March 2008.
The first one in the series of evening lectures begins with ‘Nutritional Challenges In Sport’ by Drs Sue Lanham-New and Judy Lawrence on Tuesday 11 March, 7.00 p.m. - 8.00 p.m., School of Management Lecture Theatre.
Young athletes working towards the 2012 Olympics must face the nutritional dilemma of eating for their present and future health. They must balance meeting the energy needs for training, whilst maintaining an adequate diet for optimum growth and health. Pressures around body shape and size make it such that the diet must be nutrient-dense, whilst convenient and appetising to fit in around training schedules and competitions. In this talk these issues will be examined from both a research and practical perspective.
Places are free but must be pre-booked from Educational Liaison Centre, T: +44 (0)1483 689376 or E: elc@surrey.ac.uk. All lectures are held on the Stag Hill campus.
